ORANGEBURG OUT OF THE PAST

Sunday, November 13, 2016: Local Militia on Parade, circa 1917: As we celebrate Veterans’ Day to honor all those who have served in our country’s military to protect the freedoms that we enjoy, this photograph is an example of those who have served. This is thought to be the local militia on parade adjacent to the Square in Orangeburg around 1917 during World War I. They are shown marching on Middleton Street at the intersection with Russell Street. Picture courtesy of the Orangeburg County Historical Society and provided by Dr. Gene Atkinson.
