ORANGEBURG OUT OF THE PAST

Dr. Henry Frierson, 1960: Pictured here is Dr. Henry Frierson baking the sausages at the first Rotary Club Pancake Supper fundraiser in 1960. Sadly Dr. Frierson died recently after a lifetime of serving others. For many years Dr. Henry Frierson has served many needs in Orangeburg. As a surgeon he helped restore the health of many of our area citizens for 36 years through his capable skills. Civically he has served on City Council for eight years, was President of the Orangeburg Rotary Club, and has served on the Boards of the American Cancer Society, the Edisto United Way, the Edisto Habitat for Humanity, and the Orangeburg County Chamber of Commerce.

For the past 25 years Dr. Frierson participated in the building of 60 homes for Habitat for Humanity and volunteered every week for Habitat during all those years. For all his endeavors through the years to make Orangeburg a better place in which to live, he was selected as the Citizen of the Year in Orangeburg in 2013 by all the local civic clubs.

Orangeburg was blessed to have Dr. Henry Frierson as a wonderful citizen who did so much for so many.
