ORANGEBURG OUT OF THE PAST

Nursing School Dormitory, c. 1940: When the new hospital was built on Carolina Avenue in 1937, part of the project included the student nurses’ dormitory shown here. The lot was purchased for $1350, and a WPA grant of $18,000 went toward the $50,000 construction costs. Today this building, located on Carolina Avenue at the corner of Summers Avenue, provides housing for the Citizens Against Sexual Assault (CASA).
