Food, fun and games will be available at the Branchville Fun Day beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 30.
The public is invited to bring a table and items to sell to Branch Junction for a town-wide yard sale.
“Bring your junk, treasures, crafts or baked goods from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at no charge. Vendors are welcome; space is first come, first served,” said Tom Jennings, chairman of the town’s Raylrode Daze Festivul.
Carrie Johnson, Orangeburg city finance director, said the purpose of the event is to get people involved in Branchville with a variety of different activities throughout the day.
“We welcome any church group, school group, civic group and any scout troop that may want to come out to sell products,” Johnson said.
“People are more than welcome to come out and shop with us,” Jennings said, noting, however, that no items will be sold in any of the Branch Junction buildings.
Live music will be performed from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Branch Junction, and rides around town on the Cal Smoak Special will be available for $1.00.
The Raylrode Daze Festivul Committee will also be selling pizza slices during the day.
“People should come out and support it — promote our town and promote Raylrode Daze,” Jennings said.
At 2:30 p.m., the Miss Raylrode Daze Beauty Pageant will be held in Branch Junction. This event is free and open to the public. Applications for participation in the beauty pageant are online at www.raylrodedazefestivul.com.
Participants must live within the 29432 zip code or be enrolled in a Branchville school to be a contestant.
“We’re making some changes on our beauty pageant. We are going with a more casual approach with hopes that we’ll get some more participants,” Jennings said.
This year’s attire will be more “church-like,” instead of formal wear, he said.
Games of Bingo will be played immediately after the pageant in the Red Dog Saloon. All proceeds will benefit Branchville High School’s Beta Club.
The movie “Finding Nemo” will be shown on the Big Screen downtown in Branch Junction at 8 p.m. Concessions will be sold by the Raylrode Daze Festivul Committee.
“Bring your chairs and come out to spend the day in Branchville,” Jennings said. “Bring your family with you.”
