EHRHARDT -- A local banker and civic leader has been named the grand marshal of the 2017 Ehrhardt Christmas Parade.
David Johns of Smoaks, who has been employed by Enterprise Bank of South Carolina in Ehrhardt since 1970, will lead the Schuetzenfest Lighted Christmas Parade the evening of Sunday, Dec. 3. The parade will kick off at 6 p.m.
Johns began working full-time at Enterprise Bank after graduating from Charleston Southern College in 1976. He has served as treasurer for the Schuetzenfest off and on since its inception and has served on the Schuetzenfest Committee since the first festival in 1976.
Johns is a charter member of the Ehrhardt Lions Club.
Ehrhardt Mayor Bill Stanley and Christmas Parade Chair Flucie Sease said they chose Johns as the 2017 grand marshal because "the town is honored to have such an upstanding, upright man in our midst. David is the epitome of what it means to be a 'good man.'"
Johns and his wife, Dawn Floyd Johns, have two children, Christopher and Erika.
Immediately after the parade Sunday evening, trophies will be presented to the best entries and dignitaries will be introduced at the new building across from the Ehrhardt Post Office. After the awards program, everyone is invited to attend the Soup Supper fundraiser at the Ehrhardt Fire Department. Santa will be there for the kids, and special music will be presented by guitarists Moye Brandt and Don Yokum.
