As with the other rooms in a modern cottage, the dining room is all about combining textures and materials. A big wooden table is a must, whether it’s new or antique. The exposed wood grain provides a great starting point for the rest of the room’s decor.

Mix up the chairs for contrast and visual interest: Stick to the same neutral color palette and make sure all the seating is comfortable, but other than that, try to think outside the box. Each chair could be a little different, or you could just use basic dining chairs around the edges and two plush or woven chairs at the head and foot of the table.
