The Regional Medical Center primary care practices received national certification as Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Homes by the National Committee for Quality Assurance for using evidence-based, patient-centered processes that enhance care.

“All eight of the RMC Primary Care practices located in Orangeburg, Calhoun and Bamberg counties have been recognized as NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Homes for delivering high quality care that research has shown can lead to lower costs, improved patient experience and better health outcomes,” said RMC Vice President of Physician Practices Chuck Mewshaw. “We are very proud of our staff for achieving this recognition that ultimately benefits our patients.”

The Level 3 recognition is the highest given by the NCQA. This means that RMC Primary Care practices have demonstrated excellence and received high scores in six critical areas of patient care. Those areas are: Access, Team Care, Population Management, Care Planning, Referral Management and Quality Improvement.

Certification lasts for three years. Patients who receive their care at a PCMH can expect open access to care. They can also expect an emphasis on preventative and screening services, which help keep patients healthier through earlier detection of health issues, and better management of chronic conditions. PCMH puts patients at the center of their care and encourages them to take an active role in decisions about the care they receive.
