The One Orangeburg County Initiative, also known as One Orangeburg County, is a collaborative effort to bring together Orangeburg County’s leaders from all segments, in order to work toward a common goal of making the County an even better place to live, work, learn, shop and play.  ‘1000 Strong’ is the grassroots level involvement to support the vision for Orangeburg County to be the premier place to live, work, learn, shop and play. All work is in support of the mission to identify, streamline and implement critical work in support of our vision through the collaborative effort of key leaders in the community.

The Initiative was created in 2015. The Orangeburg County Development Commission (OCDC), working with an outside consultant, identified core leaders (now known as “One Orangeburg County Leadership” and “The 100”) and work began to align community needs, group purpose and the goals that are now the key focus of the work. Task Forces were then formed and are now used to deliver key outcomes and results. Having key leaders working together facilitates getting impactful results. An unprecedented level of information exchange takes place. Successful completion of identified projects is not only attracting new jobs, industry and residents to the area; but it  is helping to ensure continued improvements in the area’s quality of life.

The quarterly town hall type meetings facilitate the work by creating a forum which brings together committed, dedicated citizens, friends and investors. These meetings share Task Force updates, spotlight success stories and provides a means for community engagement. The mission of The 1000 is to harness the collective forward momentum, hopes, strategies and efforts of One Orangeburg County. It facilities the ability to unify and communicate opportunities as a part of the grassroots movement.
