This weather hasn’t exactly been all that beautiful. Word is that the system will clear up by the weekend meaning good football weather for high schools and S.C. State….or whatever non-sports related event you’ve got going on in your life. But you’re a sports fan and you’ve got something sports related going on. I know you better than that.

Anybody big on fantasy basketball out there?

KAREEM’S NEW CHALLENGE

Remember when Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was a solid presence in the paint for the L.A. Lakers? Remember when his sky hook was unstoppable? It seemed like nothing really got in his way when he put the ball in the air.

Cover 2 Game of the Week: C.A. Johnson @ Calhoun County
The Hornets haven’t made the playoffs in over 10 years. Now, they’ll have a chance to prove they belong when they visit St. Matthews to take on the Upper State’s (that’s Division I)  second-ranked Saints.

Can the Hornets pull the upset or will the boys in red and black prevail? Notes to come following the game…

Cable Issues / College Basketball

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

I’ve got to share this with you guys. I know this is generally the portion of the blog where I give you some random thought about what’s going on in my life, but I wanted to give you this interesting fact. H-K-T will host only their third home playoff game on Friday. As the #4 seed in the Class A Division II Upper State bracket, they’ll take on McBee.

Just think about that for a second…

I just got the new NBA 2K10 and I’m pretty impressed. I haven’t done everything on it yet, but it’s definitely taken a chunk of time away from my Madden NFL 10 devotion.

Anyway, you guys know how I get with my random thoughts. Got lots to cover…

Battery Creek-Lake Marion game notes

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

It wasn’t necessarily the way you want to see a team end the season, but I’d be happy with a playoff berth if I were on Lake Marion’s squad. It’s a definite sign of progress for the Gators and they’ll be able to build off of this season. According to Gators head coach Chris Carter, the Gators will travel to Myrtle Beach next week for first round action.

Let’s get to the notes…

Cover 3: Edisto-Marion Game Notes, The Price is Wrong, ‘96 Packers vs. ‘09 Vikes

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

As I sit here and listen to some hip-hop before tonight’s  Marion s. Edisto match, I just wonder what is going on in the NFL. Seriously, why is football so bad now? The average margin of victory last weekend was around 20 points. Really? How many of you guys fell asleep in the film study?

Anyway, I got lots of good info for you here. Hope you enjoy!

Notes from the Mohawks-Saints Game…and more

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

BETHUNE-BOWMAN NOTES

Reigning defensive player of the Trevelle Stephens was sidelined for the Mohawks’ encounter with the Saints. From what he told me before Friday’s game, Stephens separated his shoulder in the first quarter of Bethune-Bowman’s 12-6 loss to St. John’s. Keep in mind that Stephens played the entire game and recorded nine tackles, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery….all that with practically one good arm.

The news didn’t get any better for the Mohawks. To say the offense struggled may be a bit of an understatement. They put together -17 yards of offensive productivity. Then again, the Saints did seem to bring the blitz quite often to rattle freshman quarterback Jawan Willis. In fact, Bethune-Bowman did not gain a positive yard in the third quarter.
