Gamecocks to face Mexican national team
Tuesday, June 30, 2009 COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The South Carolina women’s soccer team will play an exhibition against the Mexican national team in August.
The school announced the match Monday. It will take place Aug. 21 at the MESA Soccer Complex in Greenville.
Gamecocks coach Shelley Smith said it will be a chance for her team to face an opponent unlike any they’ve ever played. Smith said the game will give her and her coaches invaluable feedback before the season starts. The exhibition is South Carolina’s first since 2005.
South Carolina opens the regular season Aug. 28 against College of Charleston.
