The students went on a complete tour of the house, which was erected in 1817 and enlarged in the 1830s, and visited the historical sites of Philip Simmons' home, his blacksmith workshop, and the Angel Oak Tree on Johns Island. The trip was funded by a South Carolina Department of Education grant.
