HOLLY HILL – An Orangeburg County native who is currently employed as an executive director of schools with Richland School District One in Columbia has tentatively been given the nod to become the new superintendent of Orangeburg County Consolidated School District Three.

Dr. Cynthia Cash-Greene was the choice of the OCSD 3 Board of Trustees following a closed, executive session during a special called meeting Tuesday night.

“I move that Dr. Cash-Greene be selected as our next superintendent, pending further review of experience and suitability and subject to the candidate and the board arriving at a mutually agreeable term of employment,” Trustee Jacqueline Shuler said.

The motion carried, and the special meeting of the board was adjourned.

Cash-Greene would replace Dr. David Longshore, who will retire at the end of this school year after 28 years as a teacher, principal and superintendent in OCSD 3.

The school board held a forum earlier this month at Lake Marion High School to introduce the public to the four finalists for the job: Gerald Wright, Dr. Shirlan M. Jenkins, Dr. Vashti K. Washington and Cash-Greene.

Named South Carolina’s Elementary School Principal of the Year in 2002 while principal at Forest Heights Elementary in Richland District One, Cash-Greene, joined Richland One in 1990 as assistant principal at A.J. Lewis Elementary. She was named acting principal at John P. Thomas Elementary in 1992 and principal in 1993.

Cash-Greene went on to become principal at Denny Terrace and Crane Creek elementary schools, which later consolidated to form Forest Heights Elementary, before joining Richland One’s district administrative cabinet.

She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Winthrop University and a doctorate in education from South Carolina State University, and she previously worked in Orangeburg County public schools.
