Pantherettes get first win of the season

Claflin University’s volleyball team earned its first win of the season to improve its record to 1-4 over the Lady Hornets of Allen University. Claflin University won the first game handily 25-11.The Lady Hornets made the match interesting by winning the second game 25-22. The Pantherettes quickly regained their superiority by handing Allen University losses in the final two games 25-15, and 25-8. This is the first victory for Claflin as a member of the NCAA II.

Sheena Johnson led the offensive attack for the Pantherettes with a game high eight kills. Deisha Rivers and Tashia Stewart combined for six kills each. Toi Haynes-Shelman overpowered the Lady Hornets from the service line with 13 service aces, to go along with 22 assists.

The Pantherettes open their SIAC schedule hosting Eastern Division pre-season favorite Albany State University, September 9, 2008, beginning at 6:00 pm. in the Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Physical Education Center.
