EUTAWVILLE -- The Rev. Sammie T. Nelson delivered his final sermon Sunday, Aug. 24, at Unity Missionary Baptist Church in Eutawville.

Nelson, who had served as pastor of the church for 33 years, submitted his letter of resignation on July 13, citing health problems.

The subject of Nelson's final sermon was: "God brought David through some difficult times? Are you willing to let the Lord be your shepherd?"

In the sermon, Nelson emphasized that each individual needs a personal relationship with God and need to take time to read the Bible. He told the youth that God would take care of them and challenged them not to give in to peer pressure. Nelson concluded his message by singing a song titled, "If I Can't Say a Word, I'll Just Wave My Hand."

The S&S Choir, named for Nelson and his wife Susan, presented the Rev. Nelson with a plaque of appreciation.

The church will hold a Remembrance Banquet for Nelson at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at the Utopia Restaurant and Lounge in Holly Hill. Tickets are available for $30.
