Gamecocks up by a field goal at the half
By BRIAN LINDER, T&D Sports EditorThursday, August 28, 2008COLUMBIA -- Three points.
So much for the Tommy Beecher craze, at least in th first half anyway. Heralded all week for his decision making, Beecher was just 9 of 17 passing for just 66 yards and three interceptions, two of which came in the first quarter, and South Carolina took a 3-0 lead into the half against N.C. State Thursday night.
The Gamecocks points came on a 29-yard field goal by Ryan Succop with 20 seconds to go in the first half. The kick capped a drive that began at the N.C. State 10-yard line after quarterback Daniel Evans was unable to hang onto a shotgun snap.
South Carolina had just 102 yards on 36 plays in the first half; N.C. State managed just 80 yards on 28 plays.
Scary Moment
N.C. State starting quarterback Russell Wilson was carted off in the second quarter on a stretcher after taking a hard hit.
