Lowering speed limit can save gas, lives

Saturday, July 19, 2008

To decrease the personal cost of driving cars at today’s high gasoline prices, why don’t the Feds act to limit the excessive speeds on the nation’s interstate highways?

Reducing the speed limits back to 55 would save on gasoline consumption, saving dollars for the general public – and, possibly, saving lives also.

Of course, individual states should also lower their speed limits on secondary roads. We did it during the oil embargo of the ‘70s and it worked.
