Fannie Brooks honored as RMC Volunteer of the Year
Tuesday, May 20, 2008Fannie Brooks of Orangeburg was named the Regional Medical Center Auxiliary's Volunteer of the Year at the recently held Volunteer Awards Luncheon.
Originally from Austin, Texas, Brooks has lived in Orangeburg for 53 years. She joined the Auxiliary in 1997 and has contributed 4,200 service hours to the RMC. She serves at the main lobby information desk on Mondays and Fridays.
Brooks said she is grateful for being named Volunteer of the Year and was truly surprised when the announcement was made.
"I enjoy my work at RMC and have met many nice people who enter the front entrance to seek information concerning their relatives, loved ones and friends," she said. "I am grateful for the opportunity to exchange a kind word and a smile, hoping their loved ones are improving and will be able to return to their homes soon. Volunteering at RMC means so much to me, and I want to thank all of my fellow auxilians for this prestigious honor."
A graduate of Austin School of Business in Austin, Brooks was employed for more than 38 years in the Office of Development and Institutional Relations at South Carolina State University, where she served as administrative specialist in public relations and sports information.
Brooks is a member of the Advisory Council and the Pink Ribbon Committee of the hospital's Foundation Board. A member of St. Luke United Presbyterian Church, she has served as a member of the church's Trustee Board for three years and is currently a member of its Usher Board.
Brooks said she enjoys helping others and traveling to Texas to visit her family.
