CLEMSON, S.C. - Clemson pitcher D.J. Mitchell and Tigers first-year designated hitter Kyle Parker were named to the all-Atlantic Coast Conference first team.
Mitchell and Parker were selected by a vote of the league’s 12 head coaches. Mitchell, a junior, led the ACC with 95 strikeouts and 92 1-3 innings pitched. He was 6-4 with a 3.11 ERA in 13 starts and six relief appearances.
Parker enrolled in Clemson early, giving up what would’ve been his last semester at Bartram Trail High School in Jacksonville, Fla., this spring. He hit .310 with 14 homers and 49 RBIs in 54 games.
He was only one of two freshman to make the ACC’s first team. The other was Miami pitcher Chris Hernandez, who the coaches named the ACC Freshman of the Year.
The Tigers are heading to Jacksonville for this week’s ACC tournament. They open play Wednesday against top-seeded Miami.
