COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina coach Ray Tanner is not sure his team is in line right now to host an NCAA regional at Sarge Frye Field.

Tanner said Monday that at 37-19, he’s not counting on the Gamecocks getting to hold one of the NCAA’s 16 four-team regionals that will be announced next week.

South Carolina won two of three games with Tennessee, including Saturday’s 10-8 finale on Reese Haven’s two-run homer, to qualify for this week’s Southeastern Conference tournament in Hoover, Ala.

South Carolina has held the opening round of NCAA play at Sarge Frye five times since 2000.

Tanner says if the Gamecocks make a deep, successful run through the SEC tournament, that could change South Carolina’s hosting fortunes.

The Gamecocks open SEC tournament play against LSU on Wednesday.
