ORLANDO, Fla. — Matt Sanders went 4-for-5 and drove in two runs to lead Clemson to a 7-3 win over Central Florida on Friday night.

But even more important than the win was what happened at Virginia Tech a few hours earlier. The Hokies beat Duke 8-5, clinching a spot in next week’s Atlantic Coast Conference tournament for the Tigers (29-25-1).

Doug Hogan had three of Clemson’s 12 hits and Jeff Schaus had a three-run homer in the eight that put the Tigers ahead 6-2.

Josh Siebenaler drove in two runs with a second inning double that put UCF (31-24) ahead 2-1.

Clemson starter Graham Stoneburner (6-4) allowed two runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings to get the win. Matt Vaughn allowed a hit and struck out two in 1 1/3 innings to earn his 10th save.

UCF starter Mitch Herold (4-4) allowed two runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings to pick up the loss.

Clemson will try to sweep the series Saturday night.
