COLUMBIA — Phil Disher went 2-for-3 and drove in a run to help South Carolina to a 7-5 win over Tennessee on Friday night.

Andrew Crisp drove in two runs with a single in the fifth that put the Gamecocks (36-19, 14-15 Southeastern Conference) ahead 7-1.

The Volunteers (27-28, 12-17) had eight hits to South Carolina’s seven and had men on first and second in the top of the ninth when the game ended.

The win improves the Gamecocks’ chances to make the SEC tournament, but they will have to watch the scoreboard unless they beat Tennessee in the series finale Saturday. The Vols’ league tournament chances are finished.

South Carolina starter Nick Godwin (6-3) allowed two runs on seven hits, striking out six in 7 1/3 innings to get the win. Alex Farotto struck out the only batter he face to earn his first save.

Bryan Morgodo (5-5) allowed seven runs on four hits, striking out four and walking five in 4 2/3 innings to pick up the loss.
