T&D Region well-represented in today's SCISAA All-Star games at Orangeburg Prep
By EMERY GLOVER, T&D Sports WriterSaturday, May 17, 2008Baseball season isn’t quite over yet for Adam Jarecki and a few of the Calhoun Academy Cavaliers.
Jarecki and four of his players will take part in today’s 1:30 p.m. SCISAA Class A-AA All-Star game at Orangeburg Prep.
The Cavaliers and Williamsburg Academy, their opponent from this year’s Class AA title series, each have four All-Star selections in today’s game.
“It says a lot that we’ve got four guys that are supposed to be the best of the best,” Jarecki said. “So, that’s good for our program to have four playing in it.”
Calhoun Academy is just one of four schools being represented on the South squad today. Tyler Brownlee and Tyler Crook of Dorchester Academy were today to participate in today’s game. Clint Westbury will represent Holly Hill Academy while Bowman Academy’s Tripp Looper will be the lone Class A player on the roster.
Prior to that game, Dillon Way will be the only Orangeburg Prep Indian playing in the Class AAA All-Star game at 11:30 as a member of the North team.
Meanwhile, Holly Hill head softball coach Henry Lockey will make his first coaching appearance in the SCISAA Class A-AA All-Star contest for the first time since 2005.
Along with Lockey, the Lady Raiders will be well represented in today’s 1:30 p.m. contest at Orangeburg Prep. Holly Hill has five players on the South roster giving them the most selections from one school this year.
“The competition in SCISAA every year gets better and better,” Lockey said. “It kind of makes it a little bit more special given the fact that there are some really good athletes from these other schools. To still be able to get five is just a good reward for our program. It just shows the hard work and the dedication that these girls put in. I couldn’t be tickled more for the girls that made it.”
Calhoun Academy’s Megan Carn and Dorchester Academy’s Lacy Jones will team up with the Holly Hill quintet in hopes of defeating the North team.
Orangeburg Prep’s duo of Kayla Mims and Barkley Stoudenmire will play for the North squad in the Class AAA game at 11:30 a.m.
Orangeburg Prep will also host the SCISAA All-Star soccer games starting at 11:30 a.m. OPS Lady Indians Dorsey Craft and Megan Goodwin were selected to play on the North team.
