Calhoun County High School juniors and seniors gathered May 5 for a DUI and Seat Belt Safety Program as a prelude to a safe prom night May 9. Safety Project Administrator Dorothee von Wiese, pictured, from Tri-Development Center of Aiken County welcomed students and gave an overview of the program.

Other featured speakers included Deputy Troutman of the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office; Howard Riley, EMS Calhoun County; and Donnie Porth, Calhoun County coroner. Speakers emphasized safe driving practices, the importance of having all passengers buckled in and the dangers of drinking and driving.

Speakers also presented the tragic consequences of violating safe driving practices by citing actual cases involving teens. Junior class sponsors provided the program to encourage teens to make responsible choices.
