ORLANDO, Fla. — Ben Paulsen and Stan Widmann each drove in three runs to lead Clemson to a 9-1 win over Central Florida on Thursday night.
Widmann had three of 13 hits for the Tigers (28-25-1).
Clemson’s Atlantic Coast Conference season is finished, and the Tigers are watching the scoreboard to see if they will make next week’s ACC tournament.
The results Thursday were not good. Wake Forest won to leap past Clemson in the standings, and Duke beat Virginia Tech. If the Blue Devils win two more over the Hokies, they’ll also jump past the Tigers and Clemson will stay home.
Tigers starter D.J. Mitchell (6-4) allowed one run over five hits over seven innings to get the win.
Central Florida starter Kyle Sweat (5-4) allowed four runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings to pick up the loss.
