You 'don't wanna' miss I Nine

The Downtown Orangeburg Revitalization Association has announced that musical artists, I Nine, will be performing a one-night-only event at 8 p.m. June 6 at Stevenson Auditorium.

The event is in recognition of the Orangeburg natives' talent as well as being a fund raiser to replace instruments stolen from the quartet last year.

"As their hometown, this would be a good thing for us to do supporting them," said Bernice Tribble, DORA executive director.

"I think it's going to be a sell-out," she said. "They have so many friends and supporters in Orangeburg, it's a really good opportunity for people to hear them while they're on their way up. We're just happy that we can do this to support our local talent."

This local band has recorded such hits as "If This Room Could Move," "Seven Days of Lonely" and "Don't Wanna."

"If This Room Could Move," produced by Nickelback's Chad Kroeger, received a spotlight review in the April 5, 2008, issue of Billboard. Editor Chuck Taylor wrote, "I Nine catapulted out of native South Carolina when Cameron Crowe invited the quartet to appear on the motion pic sound track for his 'Elizabethtown.' At year-end 2007, it grazed the adult top 25 with 'Seven Days of Lonely,' the debut from upcoming CD 'Heavy Weighs the King'-- but that pep pill was a mere taste of the group's prowess. Sunny follow-up 'If This Room Could Move' is garnering hype because Chad Kroeger produced -- all well and good -- but bragging rights are earned on its own merits: an ambrosial vocal from Carmen Keigans, divine start-and-stop tempo, and instrumental elements that blend '90s jangle-rock with Brit pop."

"We're pretty excited," Keigans said. "We hope that a lot of people that haven't gotten the chance to see us in Columbia or Charleston will come out to this show and like what they hear."

The concert is also a benefit for getting money back to replace a trailer that was stolen earlier this year along with their musical equipment, she said.

Recently, "Don't Wanna" was picked up by popular MTV reality show "The Hills," said Keigans. The song was featured during the season finale of the show and also is currently a top-selling hit on iTunes, she said.

In addition to Keigans, the band includes Bryan Gibson on cello and lead guitar, Brian Whitman on guitar, and Matt Heath on bass.

General admission for the concert is $15 and tickets can be purchased from Tribble at the DORA office, 152 Market St. Please call ahead.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Seating is first come, first served. For more information, call Bernice Tribble at 803-531-6186.
