The Palmetto Concert Band, led by James Copenhaver, director of bands at the University of South Carolina, will perform its annual Memorial Day concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 25.

University Professor Emeritus William Moody will share the conducting duties with Copenhaver. The concert will be held at the Koger Center for the Arts. Admission is free and open to the public.

The band will play four patriotic selections to honor the men and women who have died in military service. The selections are John Williams' "Summon the Heroes," Paul Creston's "Celebration Overture," John Philip Sousa's "The Stars and Stripes Forever" and "Gershwin!" arranged by Warren Barker.

The Palmetto Concert Band is made up of professional and semiprofessional musicians from throughout South Carolina, with a few members from North Carolina and Georgia. A large majority of its members are alumni of the School of Music, and more than half of its members are band directors of public schools.
