A Cope man was arrested Monday on multiple charges, including stealing a vehicle, after a woman reported a hit-and-run collision near Glover Street.

At around 12:15 p.m., a woman called ODPS, saying a man had hit her vehicle and driven off. The woman said she was parked at the intersection of Maple and Glover Streets when the man drove into a space beside her. She said she heard him say something inaudible as he backed out quickly from the parking spot, the incident report stated. As he did so, he struck her car, the woman told police.

The woman then called in the man’s tag number to police. Police dispatch ran the tag number, which came back stolen from a Branchville man, police reported.

As police converged on the area, an officer spotted a silver Nissan Maxima. The officer pulled in behind the vehicle and made a traffic stop.

Three individuals inside the vehicle were detained while the driver could be identified. As the officer attempted to read the driver his rights, the driver interrupted, saying he didn’t want to hear his rights because he already knew them, the incident report stated.

Dispatch confirmed the man had a driver’s license. But that had been suspended -- several times, according to the report.

Deshawn Jones, 23, of 2223 Carver School Road, was charged with driving under suspension, third or greater offense; possession of a stolen vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident.

* An H&S Drive woman was arrested for domestic violence Monday after a dispute over a chair turned violent.

At around 9:45 p.m., deputies were sent to an H&S Drive residence after a call about an ongoing verbal altercation at that location.

A man at the house said a woman at the residence put a leather chair out on a porch and he wanted it inside. Deputies suggested the couple work out a compromise.

No compromise was reached, apparently, as deputies were called back to the residence at around 10:55 p.m. When the officers arrived, they noted the man had several lacerations and whelps to his head and neck areas. The woman said the man had choked her, the incident report stated.

The man said he tried to reconnect the cable box after the woman disconnected it because he had retrieved his chair from the porch.

The woman then struck him with a cord from the TV numerous times, he said.

The 31-year-old woman was taken into custody.
