Teenage burglary suspect tells police he needs help
By T&D StaffSunday, May 11, 2008BAMBERG -- Bamberg police were dispatched to the residence of a Price Street woman in reference to a burglary on May 1.
The victim told police she left her house at round 8:00 a.m. and when she returned around 9:30, she heard a noise. She said when she opened the door, she saw a 16-year-old Bamberg juvenile she knew running out the back door.
Police were shown a rear window in the house where the victim said the suspect had entered, as the window was left open. When police entered the house with the victim, they found the suspect’s jacket and work bag which contained DVDs which the woman recognized as hers, a wallet with ID card and keys. The TV had been left on in the woman’s bedroom, and a pornographic movie was playing.
The victim told police she had made her bed before leaving and she could tell the suspect had been lying in it. Officers on the scene were notified that a relative of the juvenile was bringing him back to the victim’s house.
The juvenile told police he needed help, saying he got the idea to break in and steal the DVDs and that “when he gets an idea to do something, he does it and does not think about it,” the incident report stated.
A neighbor also told the victim he had witnessed the incident. When the juvenile’s mother arrived at the scene, she told police she felt her son needed to go to Columbia to the Department of Juvenile Justice. The suspect was charged with burglary II.
