SCSU women's tennis team falls

CHAPEL HILL, S.C. - For the fourth consecutive year, the South Carolina State women's tennis team had a short stay in the NCAA Tournament.

For the second time in four years, the Lady Bulldogs were shut out 4-0 by the University of North Carolina Friday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.

The Lady Tar Heels got singles wins from Austin Smith and Laura Reichert over Lady Bulldog Andrea Davidova (3-6, 0-6) and Sarai Torres (1-6, 1-6) def. Andrea Davidova, 6-3, 6-0 and won two doubles contests. The loss by Davidova and Daria Sekerina was their first of the season.

Seniors Miriam Cruz and Marcela Rodezno were losing their singles matches at the time when UNC got the four victories needed to advance to the second round. The duo immediately headed back to Orangeburg for commencement exercises.

The SCSU men will try to fare better against UNC Saturday at 10 a.m.
