SC State APR Continues to Improve
By SCSU Sports InformationWednesday, May 07, 2008South Carolina State continues to perform well in academic performance as measured by the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Academic Progress Report (APR).
Men’s basketball, with a score of 980, showed a significant improvement over the previous year’s score of 909 but fell below the multi-year average of 925 with a multi-year score 889. However, the NCAA determined that the institution would not be subjected to any contemporaneous penalties because the recent performance of the program has been at a level consistent with, or surpassing, that of the overall student body. All remaining SC State athletic teams have a multi-year rate above 925.
Bulldog athletics director Charlene Johnson said the university is on the right path to ensure that all programs attain multi-year scores above 925.
“We are pleased,” Johnson said “that the academic improvement plan we implemented to strengthen our overall athletic program is paying dividends. We are making strides and will continue to enhance our efforts, especially in those sports that require improvement.
“The university received perfect scores in both men’s cross country and men’s tennis and is extremely proud of this achievement.”
