Porcher sentenced to one-year probation, 50 hours community service
By BRIAN LINDER, T&D Sports EditorTuesday, May 06, 2008DETROIT -- Former South Carolina State and Detroit Lions star Robert Porcher was sentenced Monday to serve 50 hours of community service and serve a year of probation after pleading no contest to assaulting his ex-wife, Kimberly.
According to a report by John Wisely in the Detroit Free Press, Porcher was sentenced by Bloomfield Hills District Judge Kimberly Small, who said she added that she was disturbed that Porcher’s children witnessed the event which took place Dec. 10 in a doctor’s office.
“You’re not only a role model to your own children, which everyone is, but you are a role model to thousands of children,” Smalls told Porcher according to the Free Press.
The article states that Small ordered Porcher not to speak to his wife, but to communicate with her via e-mail and text messages.
Porcher, 38, apologized to his former wife, his children and the community.
“I accept full responsibility,” Porcher said according to the Free Press. “I will accept whatever the court feels necessary. I just want to be able to put this behind me.”
Wisely reported that Small sentenced Porcher to 93 days in jail but agreed to hold the sentence in abeyance during his probation. Porcher must complete his probation before the conviction will be removed from his record.
