Nine individuals from around Orangeburg County were taken into custody on a multitude of drug-related charges during what is being called an ongoing operation.

“At the end of last week, officers from this department began an operation where we were hunting for multiple drug defendants,” Orangeburg Department of Public Safety Capt. Mike Adams said Monday. “This was the culmination of a long-term investigation conducted by the Department of Public Safety Narcotics Unit.”

Besides the nine people taken into custody, the drug bust resulted in the seizure of a number of weapons and drugs.

“This group seized a substantial quantity of cocaine, crack cocaine and marijuana as well as several handguns and ammunition,” Adams said. “All of the high-risk individuals were targeted by the SWAT team and taken into custody without incident.”

The operation included officers from the ODPS as well as the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and hit several areas about the community.

“Although it’s not just one area, we did target problem areas,” Adams said. “We knew where the business was.”

The team went out carrying 66 warrants issued against an undisclosed number of individuals. But police are “still holding a substantial number of warrants, and we are actually searching for a number of suspects. We anticipate this operation will take another two weeks,” Adams said.

" Now maybe we can get our sheriff to move. make a competition out of it. BTW there is another drug haven on the cannon brige road that keeps getting overlooked. We also are having to deal with the CBR punks. Sheriff Williams please do something about this area before the citizens take matters in there own hands. None of us want that. "

" A big thank you to DPS on this one. It's about time that we are taking steps to get these criminals off the streets. Hopefully, they will not just be slapped on the wrist and released. It is time that the people of this community can stop living in fear of these dealers and the addicts that they supply. Keep up the good work!! "
