Claedrika Mulligan of Orangeburg, 16, will compete as a state finalist in the National American Miss South Carolina Pageant June 18-19 at the Hyatt Regency Greenville.
The winner of the pageant will receive a $1,000 cash award, the official crown and banner, a bouquet of roses and air transportation to compete in the national pageant at Disneyland in California.
A cheerleader at Edisto High School, Mulligan plays on the basketball team and runs track. She also sings in the choir at school and acts in a drama class. To relax, Mulligan likes hanging out with her friends, going shopping and talking on the phone.
The program bases its selection “on inner beauty as well as poise and presentation.”
“I chose to be in the National American Miss pageant because I thought it would be a great experience,” she said. “I would be given a chance to meet new people, make friends and earn scholarships to further my education.”
Participants can have sponsors or pay their own fees. Mulligan said she hopes to find sponsors.
Her main goals, she said, is to continue her education and to one day own her own business.
